What role does sport play in the municipal structure? Its evolution in the last 12 years
The third edition of the quantitative study on management of local sport evolution in Barcelona region allows us to obtain quantitative data of 2010, 2016 and 2022 years and analyze its evolution over the last 12 years. Itik, a sports and leisure consultancy, collaborate on two editions and presents a historical comparison of the evolution of the main aspects in this period.
The first essay of ‘Barcelona City Councils of the demarcation of Barcelona and sport’ 2022 study edition carried out by the Provincial Council of Barcelona, corresponds to 'Background and contextual aspects of the Sports service'. So let's take a look at the main conclusions reached regarding this organization of the Municipal Sports Service.
Prevalence of single councils
As the figure shows, currently 59.8% of sports municipal councils are made up of a single department, only 39.6% shared it with other areas. Regarding the evolution, similarities are observed between 2010 and 2022, unlike in 2016 where most councilors were shared.
More councils share projects with children and youth, education and health
In shared departments, the areas shared by municipal sports department are presented here.
It shows, from 2010 to the present, there is an increase sharing departments like children and youth, culture, festivities, health and education. Forming both its own and shared council, the sports area is included in the area of services to people, being an area that brings together all those aimed at citizens. In this sense, Esports works together with the aforementioned areas, sharing projects in which the public is at the center of the service.
Less transversality between areas
Periodic coordination meetings with other municipal departments are essential for managing resources of the shared areas. However, the following figure exemplifies the current reality in which meetings have progressively decreased compared to 2010.
It must be considered that the 2022 data is due to the post-Covid-19 stage when organizations have been promoting online coordination meetings and meetings, how to relate to colleagues as well as restrictions have conditioned the type of projects to be able to develop.
The study allows us to obtain statistically representative data, promoting the planning of new actions by the agents of the sports system.
