The feasibility study: the importance of going beyond numbers in a sports project
The feasibility study is a key instrument for any sports project. This tool allows us to have essential information in the decision to carry out any project. Taking into account different economic scenarios in which we can find either the operation of the facility or the service or the valuation of the different possible forms of financing are elements that any feasibility study should contemplate. But in the sports sector, the study of economic viability is not enough. Viability can also be sports or social.
Therefore, according to the type of organization promoting the sports project, one type of feasibility will be more relevant than another according to the defined policies and/or the interests of the same. Sometimes, there will be projects that will have a high social and/or sports feasibility and will be carried out despite having low economic viability that will require other sources of financing for their operational expenditure. The sport requires projects and installations of these characteristics in order to guarantee access to the sport for all citizens as well as to be able to give way to high-performance sport. Other times, if the project has positive economic results is a decisive element. In all cases but it will be necessary to take into account the three types of feasibility since the interaction between the three can determine the best management model of this or possible alliances and collaborations for its development or implementation.
