Olympic pool Tarragona Mediterranean Games 2017 features a feasibility study post-Games that suggests an innovative model of public-private partnership.
The appointment of Tarragona to host the 2017 Mediterranean Games by the International Olympic Committee means that the city has available and adequate sports facilities for an event of such magnitude. Among these, the future construction of a swimming pool with an Olympic category was approved.
Itik Consulting, conducted the study to analyze the feasibility of this new Aquatic Center after completion of the Games, taking into account future uses that this could have, and would determine which management model would be most appropriate. Since the Aquatics Centre will be located in the Mediterranean Ring, the sporting epicenter of the competition, and that most of these facilities have a seasonal basis only for the Games, some thoughts on future uses of the ring were raised. These uses would be complementary to sports and allow for greater social and economic profitability and potential schemes of public-private partnerships.
The innovative model of collaboration with the private sector that Itik Consulting raised in the study, would facilitate future financing Aquatics Center, thereby maintaining the current model of direct management, which currently holds the City Council through the Municipal Sports of Tarragona.
