From internal reflection to future strategy: the keys to advising the Unió de Consells Esportius de Catalunya.
The Unió de Consells Esportius de Catalunya, UCEC, an entity with a long tradition in the field of sports in Catalonia and a guide in school sports, works with the aim of guaranteeing the right to physical activity and sports of the population, especially children, turning sport into a training and integrating vehicle.
In a current sports framework where the traditional sports model has been focused from the beginning on competition that does not ensure that the entire population can access, the UCEC promoted a collaborative project with itik Consulting to consolidate a process of transformation the popular sport in Catalonia, from the youngest to the oldest that allows a continuity in the sporting life of people beyond the competition.
This process of reflection began at the base of the organization itself and from the in-depth analysis of the singularities of the different Sports Councils that form it to take the pulse of the key agents of the project and establish the starting point.
Among the most outstanding projects that were developed in the framework of this collaboration:
Objective: to reflect on the redefinition of the school sports programs "School Sports Games of Catalonia" and "Catalan School Sports Plan" promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya; jointly promoted by Sports Councils, the UCEC, schools and the collaboration of local corporations.
Objective: to know the current situation of the teen’s sports habits of the catalan territory and to identify the characteristics of the physical activity and the sport that attract to them to be able to design an offer that responds to its real needs. Made from the administration of an online survey to high school youth, obtaining more than 3,000 answers.
Objective: to articulate the theoretical basis of Popular Sport, providing it with content in terms of health, social cohesion, a culture of responsibility and personal and community values.
It should be noted that in this collaboration there was a high participation of key agents such as the Sports Councils with which different meetings and sessions were held as well as with the users of one of the groups analyzed, teens, with whom a series of group dynamics in different educational centers in the territory were made.
This set of projects made it possible to obtain an analysis of the current situation, both organization itself and of the different programs offered so far, identifying the strengths and aspects with potential for improvement in the coming years. So, it gave the key elements to be able to chart a future strategy in the field of popular sports with a view beyond the children and putting the interests and needs of the current population at the center.
